Chair of Trustees
Do you have executive or non-executive experience in the social housing sector and want to help progress an innovative form of housing?
Do you have a passion for improving the housing system through new solutions?
Do you want to help improve communities in Bristol and the South-West?
If any of these questions resonate with you, we’d love to hear from you. At Bristol Community Land Trust (BCLT), we are seeking a new chair to lead the Board and BCLT in its next chapter. As a crucial leadership role, the Chair will help refresh the company strategy and ensure that the work and objectives are in line with our vision. The Chair will lead inclusively, supporting the board to work together well, whilst acting as an ambassador for the organisation both internally and externally.
This is a voluntary, unpaid role and the successful applicant will need to re-apply every 3 years for this position. Board meetings are quarterly, and additional input is required between board meetings. Expenses can be reimbursed for travel and other items, within reason, whilst performing board duties.
This is a unique opportunity for the right applicant to impact the local community by leading BCLT in the strategy and governance of the community land trust.

Volunteer Trustee Roles
We currently have vacancies on the board of BCLT and are seeking members to express an interest. Our Board is ultimately responsible for ensuring that BCLT meets its objectives and complies with all relevant regulations. Although day-to-day responsibility for running the organisation is delegated to our small staff team, the board make the key decisions relating to governance, finance and future development.
No board experience is necessary, but a passion for and commitment to community-led housing is essential. We are particularly interested in people with skills and experience in:
· Social enterprise / business development
· PR and communications
· Housing and Tenancy Management
· Finance
Board meetings are quarterly (and currently hybrid in-person and online), with regular meetings of sub-committees in between. Board members will be expected to join one or more sub-committees or working groups dealing with finance, project development or risk. As we are such a small organisation, we also need our Trustees to pitch in occasionally and help with projects or events.
